We had another busy week in Reception. Children have had many opportunities to use and develop their large and fine motor skills.

 

Making foam with big brushes and shaving gel: great for developing those muscles.

 

 

As part of our space topic,  we all made our own space rockets. We decorated plastic bottles and then used a variety of different materials to add extra details.

 

 

 



 

 We now have an astronaut investigation box.

A balloon rocket challenge: Is our rocket strong enough to carry a small basket? Can we build a basket to attach to the rocket?

 

 

Minds at work: "We should cut out bits of paper and stick them under the rocket".

We all had a taster session to find out what astronauts eat when they are travelling in space.

 Inspired by the songs we have been learning for harvest, we have been dingle dangle scarecrows while playing outside in the sunshine...

 



By the end of the week we had all managed to get out bottle rockets finished.  We also enjoyed using them to help us with our maths skills.  We use them to learn how to order and compare different lengths/heights.

The week ended as always with Golden Book assembly, Well done to Taeyn, our Class 1 entrant this week for settling so well during his first week with us.

This week in Class 1 we have enjoyed reading another space-based story: "Whatever Next!".
Children had the opportunity to discuss their favourite part of the story and talked about what they would take with them if they went to the moon. They have also created some lovely work to add to our ever growing walls displays. 





Yoga has kept us calm and focussed and is slowly enabling children to grow their spatial awareness and

 

 

 

We have been very creative and made name rockets for our space display.

We have spent lots of time continuing to develop our number skills this week, carefully counting and collecting different numbers of objects.  This has given us plenty of opportunity to take our counting skills outside as well as using them in class.

 

 

We have also had many visitors to our bug hotel which has kept many of us busy while outside enjoying the sunshine.

A warm welcome to our new two friends in Class1!

We are all getting to know each other and are beginning to remember what our names are as well as what things we enjoy doing.
This week we have celebrated Roald Dahl by reading one of his famous stories, 'The Enormous Crocodile'.
We decided it would be a good idea to make some art work inspired by the story and to discuss how the enormous crocodile didn't have any friends.

Our Space knowledge is growing and children have enjoyed playing with our Moon landscape.

 

 

The giant pegs have been very popular and have been used to make patterns as well as to build the Eiffel Tower.

We have enjoyed learning / revising the next set of numbers 6-10 with the help of our friends, the number puppies.  The children are spotting that these numbers appear everywhere in and around our classroom.
 
 


We have continued getting to know one another with lots of fun circle time activities, both inside and outdoors.
 

 

There was much excitement today as the arrival of our new reading bags meant that we can now take our books home to share with our family.  We have enclosed a leaflet to give you some guidance but please come and ask one of us if you have any queries.

The children are so enthusiastic that they are already using and applying their sounds to play sound buttons.


The children have been wondering where Mrs Webb has got to this week, unfortunately she is poorly at the moment and has to have a few weeks off to get better.  We wish her a speedy recovery and can't wait to see her back in class.
In the meantime, thank you to Miss Allenby who has been helping us out in Class 1.

Week beginning 5th September 2016.

Wow what a busy first week we have had...

We have tried our hand at everything and learnt lots of new things.

We have spent time in the outdoor area, enjoying the fantastic September sunshine and exploring the great outdoors.

 

 

 

 

We have learnt how to use our interactive whiteboard.

 

We've met the first four sounds 's,a,t,p' and practised writing them.

 

We enjoyed learning about numbers 1-5 with the number puppy books and been shape hunting in maths?

 

Can you guess which shapes we found in our classroom?

 

 

We even enjoyed our first visit from parents and family members for our first 'Share' session in class.

 

Congratulations to all of our Reception children who all made it into the Golden book in this weeks celebration assembly for settling so well. Well done!

We are so proud of all of our new children and hope that they have a relaxing weekend.

Week beginning 11th July.

Well done to all the children this week for concluding our learning on the Gruffalo, and what better way to end than creating these fantastic Gruffalo cupcakes...

 

We made chocolate buns and then piped chocolate icing.
We then added marshmallows and jelly tots to add some features.

We have also had a busy week completing lots of end of year assessment tasks ahead of the end of term next week.  The children have shown a mature attitude towards some tricky tasks and are showing us that they are truly ready for their forthcoming move to Year 1.

Friday afternoon all children showed great team spirit as we joined together again for some water themed house colour relays, well done to everyone who had fun taking part and what fantastic sportsmanship was shown by all.

 

 

 

 

 

Reminder.... Next Tuesday afternoon from 3-4, parents are welcome to come and look through the children's books to see the progression from September to now.

What a fantastic week we have had...

The children had their first taste of life in Class 2 on Tuesday morning ahead of next weeks transition morning and all returned to us beaming.

We were so proud of all of our Reception children on Thursday with how they talked about their learning and behaved during our special visit.  Well done to all of you.

A super end to the week... Our trip to Rendlesham Forest.

The children enjoyed the super adventure play areas as well as woodland activities such as den building, bug hunting and much more.

We also went on one of the woodland trails and went hunting for sculptures in the sculpture area.

We had a very successful beginning of the week with all of the children taking part in our outdoor Sports Day. We had and amazing day and the children were FANTASTIC showing great enthusiasm and resilience. Well done!!

We all enjoyed the challenges and team spirit. 

Challenging ourselves didn't stop there, as we learned to count in 2's in maths.  We used the Numicon to help us and then tried to learn from 0-20 by heart.
We also took pride recording this learning in our books and well done to those of you who made it to 100 and beyond. Wow!

 

We have been extremely pleased with the arrival of our lovely new indoor sand and water trays for our classroom and the children have had a lovely time using them.

Finally, the children are continuing to enjoy the challenges in our woodland area, creating things with natural materials.  This week 'Can you make a leaf animal?'
Well done for making leaf snakes (from our Gruffalo book) and a fantastic house for them to live in.
