Week Beginning 26th November 2018

Hanukkah 2018
Happy Hanukkah!
This week we have read the story of Hanukkah and how the Jewish people celebrate it.

We looked at a Menorah.  On the Hanukkah Menorah, eight of the arms are for the candles which represent the 8 miracle days, and the ninth arm is for the candle used to light the others.

Some of us enjoyed sharing facts we have learnt about Hanukkah with friends.

Whilst others made a wooden replica of the Menorah.

In PE we spent a session worked on keeping calm and peaceful. We did a bit of meditation and followed instructions well. Some of us felt very relaxed and a bit sleepy too after this exercise.
Can you feel the warm air coming out of your nose?
Can you put any worries into a hot air balloon and watch it float away?

Can you feel your tummy when you take deep breaths?

More tummy breathing...

We have also found time for lots of lovely independent activities, such as trying out some tricky cutting tasks to create lovely star collages.

Independent writing.

'Yummy, look at all my doughnuts.'

Some excellent phonics.

Friday afternoon bought us a challenge, back to our Hanukkah theme, how do you make a star of David using only 6 lolllysticks?

I think you make two triangles and stick them together?

Here's two triangles but they haven't made a star?

After lots of thinking and talking about what needed to go where, we all got there in the end.
Well done.

Practise for the play is coming along well and the children are all working hard to learn their parts, well done.
We look forward to the arrival of all of the lovely costumes in school next week.

Congratulations to Eli, our Golden Book winner today for trying hard to be more independent in class, well done.
