First of all we would like to announce that we have officially started meditation in class one. At a time when mindfulness and meditation are increasingly recognised for their health benefits, it makes sense to teach children simple breathing exercises and fun yoga poses from an early age.
Held on Monday, Meditation and Yoga lessons finish the day in a peaceful and calming environment. We were rather impressed with how the children took part in this today and how most of them managed to relax and follow instructions.
During the session children were brought back to their centre; time for exploring their inner world and finding that inner calm again. Children were encouraged to bring awareness to each part of their body and let it go/relax and also to be aware of their breath. Great work Class one!
In maths we have been working on numbers and shapes. Children had to go on a shape hunt and find diamond shapes in our classroom.
We are beginning to see real cohesion within the class now as the children are more aware of each others characters and preferences. There have been many times this week where the whole class has been drawn to one activity, lending itself to real valuable communication time.
Transforming the crates into boats so that we could go off on holiday together, not forgetting to stop and fish along the way, so that nobody was hungry.
Sharing our Acorn to Oak books, talking about our family pictures at the front and what we been doing in Class 1 so far.
We have also introduced the idea of having independent tasks and challenges which we encourage the children to visit.
By Friday there was definitely an underlying theme amongst the children... tiredness!
We made bread crate bed outside...
...and cushion beds inside.
Thank you if you donated produce for the Harvest celebrations or managed to come in and watch our short performance this morning.
Its always very over whelming for the children the first time that they have to perform in front of a large audience and we think that they did a fantastic job, well done everyone!
Have a lovely weekend.
