Week Beginning 25.6.2018

Dear all, the Gruffalo is still very much with us in Class One and this week we have been feeling rather creative. We have been working on a classroom display based on the story of the Gruffalo. A wood is growing on the wall .....

and Gruffalo's heads are slowly  appearing around us...

His eyes are orange, his tongue is black....he has purple prickles all over his back!

Children worked in groups to act out the story of the Gruffalo. They had to choose their role explain why they wanted to be that particular character and organise the play.
Here are the boys at work...
'Owl ice-cream! I'm off little mouse....!'

'Come and have lunch with me in my underground house'

'Hello little mousssssssssssssssssssse. Come for a feasssssssst in my log pile house'.

'What's a Gruffalo??? asked owl.

We have had lots of time for independent activities going on too...

Fishing from the tower outside.

Building models with both 2D and 3D shapes.

We have been given lots of lovely new books and have been spending time enjoying them.

During our phonics sessions we have been very busy using and applying our new sounds this week.  We had to listen to the word and find out which box we should write it in.

We concluded our week with a little preparation for the forthcoming Wenhaston Garden Show.  The children looked at some pictures of some wedding flowers and created their own wonderful pictures using watercolour pencils.

WOW!

We will remind you nearer the time when the show is so that you can see the children's work in the village hall if you wish.  Posters are up around the village.

Congratulations to Thomas our Golden Book winner today for last weeks Asset award.

Enjoy the sunshine everybody.

Week Beginning 18.6.2018

"A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood. A fox saw the mouse and the mouse looked good......"
This week Reception have been learning about the author Julia Donaldson. We have had a literacy focus on the story ‘The Gruffalo’.
Can your child retell the story using different voices for the characters?
Can they describe what the Gruffalo looks like?

Here is a selection of pictures showing some of the activities we have covered in class.

Play dough Gruffalos

Just like Julia Donaldson, children had a go at creating their very own imaginary creatures using a computer programme.

We made our own mini Gruffalo crumbles

Weighing the ingredients

Mixing and stirring

It smells delicious this Gruffalo...

Ready to bake

Finishing touches

VoilĂ   Gruffalo crumbles ready to eat!

Wednesday morning was a very exciting time for us all as we went to visit Mrs Flynn and Mrs Curtis in Class 2.  We were all very keen to come back and tell all the grown ups in Class 1 how we had got on and what we had been doing.

We then got back to our usual Class 1 goings on and finished the week with some super Maths and English activities and plenty of time out in the sunshine.

Congratulations to Thomas, we had news today that you are the proud winner of the Asset reading award for the fantastic progress you have made this year.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 11.6.2018

Roll on week two.....the topic of superheroes was well and truly enjoyed by all!
Children have transformed themselves into super little people and had lots of fun alongside learning.
Meet the team of champions.....

Super girl, with sparkle power

Wonder Woman with ice power

The Hulk, strong powers

Superman more strong powers

Green Batman with roaring power

Wonder Girl with Bunny power

Wonder Woman with Shimmering power

Flash, running power

Super Lightning with light power

They are on a mission to keep us all safe.
And here they are acting out their very own villain vs superheroes story.
POW!

ZOOM!!

WHOOSH!!!

Something super hero happened with our maths too.... The villains had challenged us to crack the code to solve a mystery.  We had to do some super subtraction....

So we found that the code told us to 'OPEN THE LOCK'  ??? What did this mean?

Superheroes were required to fly round and find the lock that needed opening.

After 'opening the lock' we then found a note...

Thanks to Thomas for reading it to the whole class.

Back inside we decided we needed to think about what may happen next and some of us thought it maybe wise to write some messages to the villains.
'You're a nasty villain, I will smash you in my massive hole'

So tomorrow came and yes, it did mean another code to crack... Another hidden message and then a delivery, thanks to Miss McKenzie for finding it in the front office and passing it to us.

 Another message to read...

And superhero badges to say we had completed the mission and passed!
Well done everyone for working hard to solve the mystery and gain your badges from Superhero HQ.

Have a lovely weekend everybody.
