Week Beginning 27.3.2017

It’s been a short 6 week term in which we have certainly packed plenty of rich learning in class and beyond. There is no doubt we are all ready for the holidays....

So, this week some of us have been very creative and came up with some amazing art work.

We have practised ordering the days of the week using an interactive activity on the board.

We have learned about Easter and shared the Easter story in class. Children were very interested in finding out how to come back to life after being dead....lots of questions and thoughts have been shared.

And to finish the week... Egg-cellent Eggs, Egg rolling and Hot cross buns.

Much fun was had by all.

Congratulations to Horace, our Golden Book winner this week for working hard with his independent writing.

Have a good rest everybody and enjoy the Easter Holidays.

Children return to school on Wednesday the 19th April.

Week Beginning 20.3.2017

So, it is officially SPRING! Hence why this week we have spent time learning about this wonderful season through one of the stories written by Eric Carle: 'THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR'.

In PE we have spent time learning about team work and had lots of fun playing the game 'Team Seating'. This task is an exercise for children to work as a class, learning to be a team. Pupils had to stand in a circle , as close as possible to each other, listen to instructions and try to sit on each other knees without falling down. It took a few attempts but we did it!

Team work in process.....

Great job everyone!!

We have been busy creating this week with one person on all of our minds...Our Mummy.
Thursday we baked cakes and added the finishing touches to our fantastic cards ready for our Mother's Day share.
Everyone had a lovely time and hopefully all of our Mummies enjoyed some time with us looking after them for a change.

Mrs Webb's circle time group have been busy again this week, enjoying the musical instruments this week, linking sounds to thoughts and emotions.
I think you can see how this makes us feel?

Everybody enjoyed a day in their own clothes today as we were raising money for Comic Relief, well done everyone and thank you.

Congratulations to Logan, our Golden Book winner this week for super work in PE with Mr Knights, everyone was very proud of you.

Don't forget, next week is our 'Egg-cellent Egg' competition so if you haven't already planned what you are doing, you still have time.  Entries should be in school on Wednesday for judging.  Winners to be announced on Thursday morning.

Also Remember you will need a boiled egg on Friday as we finish the term with our Egg rolling tradition.

Week beginning 13.3.17

What beautiful springy weather we have had this week! We loved the sun shining
and spent a lot of time outdoors.  We have enjoyed reading a new book titled 'Jack Frost' by Kazuno Kohara. This is a story of a boy who meets Jack Frost and experiences his wintery magic until one day the pair saw a snowdrop...time for Jack to go and let Spring begin...
Take a look at our week unfolding starting from us making chocolate hedgehogs.......

Stirring the melted chocolate.

Mixing it all with cornflakes.

Assembling the hedgehogs.

Adding all those very important details.

Ta-da! The hedgehogs are looking at you...

Playing games in PE under the sunshine. Can you go through the hoop without breaking the link??

Our Class swap on Thursday this week was all change when we read to our partners for the first time instead of them reading to us.  Class 4 were most impressed with our reading skills and helped us change our books.  They were also fantastic listeners, thanks.

In maths we have spent all week learning about money and how we can use it to pay for things,  look at this fantastic work; paying for things at the toyshop.

Spring is well and truly here this week as we discovered when we became 'Spring Detectives.'  We took a stroll around Blackheath common looking for evidence of spring.  What a fantastic way to end all of the winter themed learning we have done over the past few weeks.

Pretty daffodils.

Purple periwinkles.

We then used all of this new information we had gathered to create a fantastic collaborative piece of artwork for our weatherproof board in our outdoor area, well done everyone, super teamwork.

Congratulations to Mary; our Golden book winner this week for your super money work in maths.

Week Beginning 6.3.2017

This week we have continued to work on the story of 'Halibut Jackson'. Children have learnt about making still images by looking closely at some of the pictures in the book. With some friends they made up their own scene and shared it with the rest of the class.

He had a suit he wore to the Park.

Well done children. We can see a flowery park and Halibut Jackson is  trying to blend in...

He had a suit he wore to the shop.

"We chose red to blend in with the apples and purple to blend in with the customers'.

Some creative work developed in the construction area where some children responded to the challenge and built a palace for the queen and king.

We welcomed a new friend to our class this week, here we are making new friends.

Our Halibut Jackson work continued in maths and here we are pulling number sentences from  his hat to solve.
We were subtracting so we chose whether we wanted to count back on our fingers, use a number line or the counting bears to help us.

We also fitted in some more baking; making scones for Halibut's party at the palace-yummy!

As well as all of our independent challenges too, here we are making tricky words with letter stamps and play dough.

Congratulations to John Paul and Eleanor our two Golden book winners today.

Remember your road safety colouring competition entries, hand them back next week.
