Week Beginning 24th January 2022

Incy Wincy spider has kept us busy this week with sequencing the story and much more...
We had fun singing and acting out the rhyme together.

We made lots of spiders out of play dough and children worked on developing their fine motor skills trying to catch our pretend spiders with tweezers.
One of our independent challenges this week was to make  play dough spiders....

We stepped back a little too and revisited Jack and Jill as we wanted to find out if it is easier to walk up a hill with an empty bucket or walk downhill with a full bucket. Take a look.

It wasn't as easy as we thought....and although the majority of children thought the empty bucket journey uphill was the easiest, some children actually preferred walking downhill with a full pail of water. Interesting!

Elsewhere we have enjoyed some dice games, trying to be the first to get the spider up or down the spout.

Our Phonics work continues daily, as always... look at this wonderful writing / word building.

In Maths we have been thinking about the 'composition' of 5 (how it's made)
We played a great game, where Farmer Frank had to get his animals into the barn while someone was sleeping... we then had to wake up and see if we could see how many were  hidden and how many we could see...

I can see 3 so 2 must be hiding....that means 3 + 2 make 5.

Fine motor / hand eye coordination continued this week with these lovely spiders / webs.
We had to complete a cutting skills challenge to make our spiders and a sewing by numbers challenge to make the web.

Don't they look great?

Today in our Nature Schools session, we took part in the ‘Big Bird Watch’   this a part of a national project and we are one of many schools taking part.

We spotted a huge number of birds while we were out, of all different shapes and sizes.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

 W/B 17/1/22

This week we have been working around the Nursery Rhyme Jack and Jill.  We have all been very busy, reading the rhyme and thinking about some of the more unusual words in it such as 'pail.

We are getting very good at our daily independent challenges in class now...these include anything from building, drawing , writing, reading, painting and much more.

Here is an example of a reading challenge.

Given the theme of our rhyme this week we have spent lots of time talking about and playing with water.  Look at this great way to find out about how water 'absorbs' into paper.

Finally it was our first outing to the wood this week with Steve...

I think you can see that a good time was had by all.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Week Beginning 10th January 2022

This term, as you know we are going to spend time learning through nursery rhymes.

See below our our rhyme for this week.....!

You got it!
HUMPTY DUMPTY.

Given how poorly and stressed Humpty Dumpty felt after the fall we wasted no time in writing some 'get well' messages.

We also challenged ourselves to try and put Humpty together again!

What about trying to get him back on to his wall?

Good job!

Our next session with Steve today (another cold morning)
We continued our work on birds and even made our own nests.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Friday 7 January 2022

 Welcome back Acorns...

This was the message Wednesday morning in Reception as we officially take on our new class name.

Everybody was keen to be back to see their friends and were soon busy too, take a look...

Some number challenges.

A very cold start lent itself to no end of investigations with the ice in the outdoor area.

Our Nature schools session was all about birds today. We made our own feeders and then learnt about different birds and how to feed them.  Steve used an app on his phone that plays different bird songs and we discovered that you can actually call them with it.

This was a very enjoyable but COLD session.  Maybe two pairs of socks may be a good idea on a Friday morning as many children had cold feet in their wellies.

You should have received a topic letter home tonight outlining our Nursery Rhymes topic to start on Monday.

Have a great weekend everyone.
