Week Beginning 27th January 2020

New week and a new book.
Cave Baby by Julia Donaldson has started us off on a journey into the 'passed on kind of past'. We spent time looking at the animals in the story and wrote about them.

In YOGA we have been working on new poses: 'Windmill' which consists in standing up straight with our arms out to the sides and touching the opposite hand to the foot. This way we crossed the middle line of our body to help the left and right brains talk tom each other....
'Penguin' pose is more of a balancing pose whilst kneeling up and holding our ankles.

In maths we have used the words measuring  and weight. We measured the weight of some parcels using a balancing scale and marbles to measure their weight. That way we found out which one was the heaviest and lightest parcels.

Estimating the weight in marbles.

Counting the marbles carefully.

Double checking...
and recording our data...

"When the bucket is down it means it is heavy"

The children's focus then moved throughout the week to measuring length and then estimating and checking capacity.

Phonics this week and we have been working so hard on developing our independent writing skills, really thinking about ALL of the sounds that we ca hear within the words when we write them.

Fantastic writing, well done.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 20.1.2020

We are still working on our book Peepo! and this week we have looked closely at some of the pictures in the story and noticed the story is set during WWII. We could see soldiers in the background and bombed buildings and we realised dad is a soldier too.

During one of the afternoons we made some porridge just like mum does in the story. It was interesting to see how many children still like porridge and how they like to have it: 'I have mine with blueberries and syrup', 'My mummy puts honey in it', 'Mine is chocolate porridge'...

It was so good that children wanted to make sure there was no porridge left in the saucepan!

'YUM!! This is sooo good!'

YOGA:
To help us improve our balance and posture for the tree pose we spent time balancing on one foot keeping our eyes open to begin with....

And then with our eyes shut.....

That was a lot trickier.

For some our independent challenges this week we have been playing the types of games that the children in our book may have played at home.  They are quite different to the sorts of things many of us have at home now...

We have had great fun developing our art and DT skills this week as we transformed our ideas planned last week to actually make and assemble our peg dolls.
The children are so proud of their creations and rightly so.

Mermaids...

 Fairies...

And Superheroes.

Congratulations to Jake, our Golden Book winner today for your fantastic effort with your reading.
Well done!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week beginning 13.1.20

This week we have stepped back a little further into the past, with the help of our text 'Peepo' By Janet and Allan Ahlberg.

We have talked about how different the house is inside compared to our houses now.  We have also looked at the kinds of things the family members may have had to do to help around the home, play with, eat etc.

One of the games the children may have played is Hopscotch so we decided to make our own outside.

Fascinated by the holes in the pages of the book we used our own 'Peepo' cards to find things to write about and even paint.

Painting what you can see through the hole.

Some independent challenges too...

Roll the dice and direct BeeBot to the correct coloured spot.
we discussed that this was a very different kind of toy to the ones that the children in our book may have played with.

Can you fish the Numicon from the water to match to the correct digits?

As you are all aware, we have had visitors in school this week, we would just like to share how VERY PROUD we are of all of our children in class 1.

We decided on Friday that we needed a special treat...

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
