Week Beginning 6th January 2020

Happy New Year and welcome back!
We have started the year with a new topic: 'Step Back in Time'.
In class, we talked about the meaning of the word PAST and children suggested what they would like to learn about: dinosaurs, birthdays from long time ago, old buildings and old toys.
As this has been our first week back we thought it would make sense to start from our immediate past: the Christmas holidays.
Children shared what they have been up to and what lovely presents they received from Santa.

We talked about ourselves when we were babies and how we looked. Turns out we had no teeth (or just a couple) which explains why babies food has to be soft.
With that in mind we decided to cook some baby's food and eat it ourselves.

We started by peeling some vegetables.

We chopped them.

Cooked them in water until soft.
Mashed them....

And dinner is served!
We took it in turns feeding a friend to see what it feels like to be a baby and a grown up.

'Here comes the train....'

'I'm granny feeding the baby'

'Hmmm, nice but no more thank you'

We then followed this up the next day with a look at our teeth and how they grow and change.  We discovered that we have different teeth for different reasons, incisors to bite, canines to rip/tear and molars to crush and grind our food.

In yoga we continued practicing our poses and introduce a few new ones.

Our new balancing pose is great to strengthen our tummy muscles.

In Maths this week we have extended our caterpillar number line and added numbers 11-20.  We have looked at the difference in these numbers as they have two digits not one.  We have also considered what that means and made them using our Numicon tiles.

We have talked about their names and ordered them on our own number lines.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
