Week beginning 19/10/21

So that's it!  The end of our first half term in (in class but now we switch to the virtual world) Reception at Wenhaston Primary.  Obviously the fact that i am posting this on a Thursday morning is somewhat different to usual...

I am just about to email all families with Usernames and Passwords for our Google Classroom as discussed during Parents Evening calls this week.  Please login ASAP so that we know if there are any problems, there is currently a couple of links to follow but I will schedule some work for the children slightly later than a 9 o'clock start today so that you don't have an overload of information when you Log in.

Please email any queries today my way, many thanks Miss Welby.

Elsewhere, we are so proud of you all and everything that you have achieved so far this half term... this week has been no exception.

We have built models of houses using different construction kits.

We have been developing our reading and writing skills in relation to CVC words.

WOW!

Please have a restful half term everyone.

Take care.

Week Beginning 12th October 2020

Good day to all of you!
We will start from sharing our progress in yoga. This week we have worked on Shoulder stand or Candle pose.
This isn't the easiest of postures and after many many attempts we started to see some results.
We will keep on working on this so watch this space!

We spent time working on the initial sounds in words too.
We looked at the objects in the pictures and matched each picture to its corresponding initial sound.

We still keep practicing our names in various different ways... this is something you could perhaps do at home too if you know that your child struggles with it.

In phonics, the children are very proud (and rightly so) that we have come to the end of the first set of sounds.  They are really beginning to come familiar with them now, well done everybody.

Elsewhere in keeping with our theme about 'ourselves' we have spent time doing a bit of investigation work....

We started with a discussion about our senses, what they are? how many there are?  and what part of the body we associate with them?  Bearing all this in mind we set off on a Sensory walk...

''Excuse me, I think that I can smell Lavender''

'Look i can see a shadow and this feels so bumpy'

The children then made some lovely recordings of their findings back in class.

We just had to share Daphne's lovely fairy house that she made on the field one lunchtime, look closely and you will see that she has even left some food in case of any visitors.

Thank you to all of the parents that we have had contact with for Parents evening appointments this week and we will look forward to speaking with the rest of you next week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 5th October 2020

Welcome back everyone. Another week has gone by in Class 1....

We started off as usual with a new pose in yoga. This time we practised the CRAB pose.

Pretend you are at the beach. Sit on the golden sand with your legs bent and your arms behind your back. Lean back and lift your body off the ground. Can you walk sideways keeping your body off the ground?

We have learnt new sounds and had a go at sorting objects according to their initial sounds

Can you spot the odd objects?

In Maths, we have been working hard too secure number names and their values...

Elsewhere we have found time to enjoy various free choice activities too.

We finished the week with a VERY exciting playtime, we went to the area where we usually ride the bikes and scooters and found that a hedgehog had come to visit.

Thankfully, Mrs Flynn was able to  come and lend a hand and we managed to pop it under the boundary fence and send him off on his way.

Much as we'd have loved a pet hedgehog in Class 1, we knew that this wasn't the right thing to do.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 28th September 2020

 Another week...another blog!

What better way to start the week with our new yoga pose?

Tree Pose:

Fantastic for our posture and balance, it has been challenging but we all had a go and got better and better as we practised:

We also worked on our sounds and explored their shapes by tracing large letters with gems.

and as you can see we practised writing them too.

We explored numbers and matched digits to their corresponding set of objects and Numicon tiles.

PE with Mr Sander this week was very exciting as we got the hockey sticks out to practice our hand and eye coordination as well as finding out about the importance of using space carefully.

In Phonics, we wowed our grown ups by showing them how many of our initial sounds we can remember and write...well done everyone.

Children should have a topic letter in the bags today.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.
