Week Beginning 25.9.2017

This week the children in Class 1 have been introduced to the topic we will cover this term: Journeys (their life journey so far as well as transports facts).
We have shared the story of 'Peepo!' by Janet and Alan Ahlberg, talked about families and looked at the photos children brought to school of when they were babies and toddlers. Very exciting and loads to say!

In Maths we have talked about numbers and where we see them. We went on a number hunt around the school and found out a lot of hidden digits here and there...

Our interactive board shows us many numbers all the times!

We couldn't believe it! Numbers on the ground??

Some are big numbers...

Numbers on walls...

...and some very important numbers to remember.

Using all  of this knowledge of numbers back in class we then looked at the Numicon tiles and how they match different digits.

The children have again been working hard to develop their independent skills, here you can see Georgie has been busy directing the racing car around the track.

An impressive helper shares his knowledge after completing the activity in order to help someon else be independent.

This week we have also started independent phonics activities; just look at all of these sounds Layla found that she recognised from our phonics sessions. Well done.

Congratulations to Thomas; our Golden Book winner today for working so hard at school and at home with your reading and phonics.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 18th September 2017

What a wonderful, busy and tiring week we have had in Class 1!
Children are well and truly exploring the different areas in the classroom and outdoor.
Take a peek.....

The listening area has become very popular and Frozen has jumped to the top on Class 1 Billboard chart...!!

We have learnt about some 2D shapes and some children found oval shaped dial buttons on one of our phones.

Meanwhile the mud kitchen team has produced some exquisite meals, decorated with fresh herbs from our 'herb patch'. Will they make it to the 'Great British Cook Off'?

The sandpit has been excavated several times but no treasure has been found ...yet!

We have tried our best to keep our outdoor area tidy and some keen helpers have worked very hard.

As the week continued the weather got hotter and hotter and everybody made the most of staying outside in the sunshine.  The bug hotel and digging bed has been busy and we seem to have a variety of guests staying at the moment.

Back indoors, we continue to work hard on learning more new sounds and how to write them.

The highlight of the week was our Harvest Celebration.  Wow! The children all sung with big loud voices and shared their fantastic harvest paintings they have done this week.  We were all very proud and the audience thought you were all fantastic.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 11.9.2017

Welcome to all of our Reception children and parents/carers. It has been a great first week for our children in Class1! All of them have done really well learning about the different areas of their classroom and making new friends throughout the school.

This week we have started to learn our first sounds and here are a few pictures of some of our work...

Lovely examples of  pre cursive letter formation.

 On the whiteboards...

In the sand...

We have also spent time outside learning how to use our outdoor classroom; enjoying the sunshine and using the space as much as possible.

Inside we continue to 'check out' all of the different areas, here we are as busy workmen making sure everything is in good repair.

We also welcomed parents into our classroom this week for our first Share session.  It was lovely to see so many of you and the children were so very grown up about saying goodbye and letting Mum's and Dad's go when the session had finished too.

The children had their first experience of Golden Book this afternoon...
Well done to everyone, the certificate was for you all for settling so well into your new classroom.

Have a lovely weekend everybody.
