Week beginning 17.10.16

This week we have read different versions of the story 'The Little Red Hen' and discussed how being unkind can affect others as well as ourselves.
Children agreed that being kind to others is much nicer and it makes us feel good.

We then talked about harvest and sung our favourite song 'Big Red Combine harvester'.
We can now explain how wheat is turned into bread.

Look at the wonderful Autumn sensory tray we have in our classroom. Children have been making little books where they recorded all those important facts they know about harvest and Autumn.
Some of us used the interactive board to draw pictures of the little red hen.
Outdoor we decided we could really do with a big comfy chair, so we built one with big plastic bricks

I can fit in this chair, look.
.

Getting ready for our creative day, collecting leaves and conkers.

Wow! What a day we had on Thursday, we were part of a group of 116 Reception children who had a fantastic day taking part in various different activities.

Outdoor art.

Painting with natural materials, twigs, cones, conkers and much more.

 Nest building for owl babies.

Painting

African drumming.

All of our children behaved well, mixed with other children from other schools and had a fabulous day.

To finish our week we had a visit from our Blyth Woods friends.  We collected acorns and planted them in our tree nursery.

We have had a fantastically busy first half term together, well done everyone and enjoy you half term.

Week Beginning 10.10.16

This week we have read the book Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram.
Bob, the man on the moon goes to work in his rocket so we thought about making some healthy rockets using fruit.
Children enjoyed threading fruits bits through skewers and eating their tasting rockets.

Fruit rockets

One of the children in Class 1set a challenge for her friends: Can you make a fairy with play dough and helicopter wings?
All the children responded to the challenge and created some lovely fairies.

In Maths we have learnt about time so what better way to do so  by playing 'What's the time Mr Wolf?

Children are doing really well with their sounds and are now beginning to use their sounds knowledge to form simple words.

It was my birthday this week so children have baked some delicious looking cakes and made lovely birthday cards for me. Thank you very much :)

Autumn is well and truly here now and this shows in our outdoor area.  The children have all been a great help today with brooms, gloves and spades helping to sweep and clear leaves and things to put in our bin.
''Another load for the bin''

We are really enjoying our PE with Mr Knights, every session we not only build on our Physical Development but are learning lots about sharing, using space and much more.

Can the cat catch the mouse? Quick grab his tail.

Please can all children bring in joggers and a warm jumper for PE, if they don't already have them, as the weather is turning colder.

We were so proud of all of our Reception children and how well they performed to a large audience during our harvest festival this morning.
Well done for speaking clearly and singing so beautifully.
Thank you to all of the parents and family members that joined us and donated so generously.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week beginning 3.10.16

What a creative week we have had in Class1.
Have a look at what we have been up to:

'Aliens Love Underpants' has inspired many of the children who created some lovely pictures of some rather strange looking aliens....

Some of the aliens in our classroom had no home to go to so we have built them a rather nice house.

Some of us felt the need to sit in a corner of the outdoor area to practise some of the relaxing techniques we have learnt in yoga.
'Let's close our eyes and say Namaste'...

Making cards to our pets can cheer us up when we miss them.

In Maths this week we have started to use the language involved in adding and taking away.

Learning sounds can be fun playing a  phonic game on the interactive board.

Lots of mark making happened on the outdoor writing table .
We have also been busy building.
''A man and his dog''

''My castle for the prince and his princess''
As always we enjoyed our reading class swap this week, sharing stories with Class 4.

We were so pleased to have Mrs Webb back in class with us to.  She was very impressed with how well we have been getting on with our reading while she has been away.  Please keep practising at home and remember to get a grown up to write in your journal, we love to hear how you are getting on at home too.

Congratulations to Mary, our Golden book winner this week, for trying so hard with your writing and reading in class.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and THANKYOU to all of those who donated cakes on Friday for our MacMillan coffee afternoon.
