Week Beginning 25th November 2019

Image result for autumn pictures"
This week we have enjoyed learning more about Autumn. We went for a walk in the school field to collect some crunchy and colourful leaves that had fallen from the trees. We have enjoyed listening to Autumn poems such as 'Autumn Leaves' and made some lovely leaves art work.
Take a look.

On Monday we had a very special visitor in school: S’s daddy who is a Police Officer. He came in to tell us about his job and what the Police do to keep us safe. We looked at his special uniform and some of the things that police officers have to carry at all times to help them with their jobs. They always carry: a radio (which they use to talk to each other if they need help or back up), a pen and a notebook to keep notes of what they do and important things they need to remember; a special stick, a spray and handcuffs to use only if people are not doing the right thing, to keep them and others safe.
We have learnt so many things and would like to say a big Thank you from all of us!

'It looks like a phone'

One of the teachers was arrested by the children....

And some of us got to dress up!

Once again a very big Thank you to our visitor.

The children are really getting into our Christmas Play rehearsals, one of us even decided to write the song words on the board for everyone to read.
'I am good at helping out...'

Our Class reading this week and we have enjoyed some more freeze frame activities.

Finally we completed the next part of our class creation; our patchwork quilt.

Today we transferred the designs we had completed on paper last week, to our material using Brusho.

They look wonderful, next we can put them altogether.
Apologies to anyone who's children came home with colourful hands, it will come off after a few washes.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 18.11.2019

We started our week with the story of 'Bear Feels Ill'.
Bear was full of cold and his friends looked after him. That was very kind but poor friends ended up catching bear's nasty cold.
This led to our science investigation about germs:
How germs spread.
We tried to answer the following questions: What are germs? How big are they? Why is it important to wash our hands?
We put a small amount of hand lotion into pupils’ hands and asked them to put glitter on one hand. We explained that the glitter was pretend germs and asked them to shake hands and touch things around the room. Children observed that the glitter would stick to whatever they touched not just their friends’ hands.
We then discussed how to get rid of those annoying bugs. We first used paper towels but there were still lots left on our hands. We then used cold water but we could still see germs on our skin.
So children suggested suggested to use soap and warm water. All the germs had gone!

Cold water...

'There are some germs left on my hands'
'We should use soap and warm water'.

YOGA poses of the week:

THE COBRA SNAKE

BALANCING POSE

The end of the week led to a little bit of performance poetry and we didn't need to go very far to find our props.

Autumn Leaves
(Performed to the tune of London Bridge)
Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down,
Autumn leaves are falling down, it is Autumn.

Find a rake and rake them up, rake them up, rake them up.
Find a rake and rake them up.
It is Autumn.

Make a pile and jump right in, jump right in, jump right in.
Make a pile and jump right in, it is Autumn.

We have finished our second whole class reading text this week, This is the Bear and the Scary Night.
The children have enjoyed reading and sharing lots of different tasks associated with the text....
How many of the tricky words from the text can you read?

As you can see, another busy week.
The children should have bought news of their part in our Christmas Play, a letter will follow Monday so that you have time to sort costumes.
Many thanks

Have a lovely weekend.

Week Beginning 11.11.2019

A poppy to say thank you from Class One...
We remembered the soldiers who fight and fought for us and made paper collage poppies and some with transient materials. Take a look.

This week pose in yoga: Air Walk.

A challenging posture. laying down on their back children had to walk in the air. As they lifted the right leg, they had to simultaneously lift the left arm and so on. They also had to remember to keep on breathing regularly.
Brilliant!

Our book this week was: Bear Feels Scared'.

We talked about feeling scared and how some people in our lives can help us feel better.
Given that poor bear was feeling very cold when he was lost in the wood during a stormy night we talked about what we would be wearing if out in the cold weather.

Congratulations and well done to all of Class 1, for a super performance during our Class Assembly this week.

Some of us have started moving on with the next set of sounds in phonics this week.  Just look at how we are beginning to use these in written activities too.

A BIG thank you to everyone who donated money for Children In Need today.  We will let you know our total next week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 4th November 2019

So the second week of term has been and gone.
A lot to celebrate and remember.
In Class 1 we learnt about why we have bonfires and fireworks on the 5th November. To add to the party mood we had our very own mini bonfire with toasted marshmallows. That was the perfect opportunity to discuss changes in materials and safety when near a fire.
'We have to blow on the toasted marshmallows because they are hot'.

'You need a water bucket near here to put the fire out'.

'When marshmallows are toasted they change colour and they are sticky'.

A little bit of girl time...
We continued to work on our topic 'Snuggle Up for Winter' and introduced our new story. These book gave us more opportunities to work on winter and hibernation.

In yoga we practised the Candle Pose and work very hard trying to lift our legs up high whilst supporting our waist and back with our hands.

Wow!! What an incredible team of little yogi! Well done!

We had another food related link later in the week, thinking about changing materials.  As Mouse and Hare had been popping Popcorn in the text we have been reading we thought that we should have a go too.
Is that Popcorn? it looks like sweetcorn?

But they are really hard!

 It's nearly ready.
'It's really soft and squishy now.'

A problem solving task in Maths....

There are fewer Blue bears than there are Red ones.
We talked about this and thought about what we had to do.
We discovered that there were many different ways to solve the problem, also we didn't have to just use the red and blue bears.

Well done everyone, that concludes another very busy week.
