Week Beginning 14th October 2019

Can you believe it? We have reached the final week of term!
The weather has been pretty grey but it hasn't stopped us from learning and being busy.
Mr S came back to school and visited us first thing on Monday morning.
We did a lot of work in maths. Children were asked to think about what numbers are and they all had to help Mr S finding out about numbers.
Mr S couldn't quite order numbers from 1 to 10 so our amazing team of little people worked that out for him showing brilliant communication skills and team spirit!

'If I start with 1 then you can put your card next to it'

'How many more children will i need to put in the yellow hoop to have the same number as the green hoop?

Mr S left the children with a challenge. He asked children to work out a way to have six rings on each line of the big square he made on the carpet.
Sure enough some of the children found the answer that morning and Mr S was very impressed!!

We also went on a walk around the village to look for different buildings:

'We saw a few detached houses'

A cottage with a thatched roof.

Bungalows...

Semi detached houses...

...and terraced cottages.
We even saw houses on wheels!

Our busy week continued with lots of lovely writing activities.

Investigating with the Numicon...

and building.

Finishing with a baking extravaganza!  The children worked very cooperatively to mix and make a biscuit dough.  Mrs Kett then kindly baked the biscuits and we decorated our own biscuits with colourful faces.

Take a look at some of our designs.

Congratulations to Jessica, our Golden Book winner today for some super independent writing in class.

Have a wonderful half term everyone and enjoy the rest.

Week beginning 7th October
Take a look at some of the many different things that have been going on in Class 1 this week.

I Spy with My Little Eye....

Our number recognition game.

 Our Sense Detectives...
This week we have been learning about our five senses and how they help us with everything we do.
We were set the challenge to go on a sensory walk, have a look and see what we could hear, smell, see, touch and even taste.

' I can hear the wind and feel it too'

'These apples and tomatoes are sweet and juicy but the blackberries are a bit sharp'

Friday afternoon we had a very busy time with our friends from Blyth Woods, we all collected and planted our Acorns along with the Hazelnuts and Chestnuts Marie bought with her.  Thank you to all of the adults that came along to support this activity.

The children all had a lovely afternoon  and will hopefully look forward to watching what happens next...

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week Beginning 30th September 2019

Welcome to our Zen Den...

This week we have officially started meditation with the help of a little friend. Children responded really well to this unusual quiet moment together.
We focused on our breathing and on how quiet it can be when we all find our own inner space...
We talked about how mindfulness is known to make people feel calmer and more focused. It can also teach us how to handle stress and anxiety.
So a big well done to all for trying their best !

Some of us closed their eyes and listened to their breathing and quietness.

We have also spent time reinforcing our sounds in phonics. All the pupils have had the opportunity to visit different tasks involving letter formation and sound recognition.

Lovely name bracelets.

We have also put a lot of effort in our counting, particularly objects we can't move.
That involved looking at pictures of objects and counting sea creatures on the interactive board.

In phonics we also tried to write as many of the sounds we have been learning as we could from memory.
Just look how well we are doing.

More independent counting activities in Maths, matching objects (buttons) to digits.

As well as our phonics sessions, we have started to use them independently to play lots of lovely games.

Outside this week amongst other things, we have discovered the jumping bag.
Much fun was had by all.

Friday afternoon and everyone was feeling tired at the end of a long week.
What better thing to do than snuggle up with a book...

We experienced our first celebration assembly today or 'Golden Book' as its known. Well done to all of Class 1 for settling into school life so well.

Have a lovely weekend everyone
