Week Beginning 5th July 2021

This week we continued to work on 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'.

We started off by writing a diary entry from Mr and Mrs Grinling's point of view.

The children wrote in character and enjoyed sharing their thoughts about the seagulls. Lots of lovely vocabulary from the book started to appear in their writing. Fantastic!

We have continued to work on our PE skills too. As we are learning new playground games we practised one of our latest favourite: Pass the Hoop.

We stand in a circle with a hoop over a child's arm. The team race against time to pass the hoop around the circle back to the start WITHOUT breaking hands.Take a look....

We decided to add more hoops and one of them was a lot smaller then the others...

And then came Sport's Day!!!!
Wow, what can we say?  We we're SO proud of our sports stars!
Not just for their sporting talent but their attitude and behaviour was just fantastic.
Well done.

Next Friday the children have an invite to our Class 1 party, to celebrate the end of our year in Reception.
Invites are in their book bags tonight.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Weelk Beginning 29th June 21

It has been an interesting week in Class 1 with lots of  work completed....

The children have been introduced to a new story...

We loved the scrumptious food prepared by Mrs Grinling for her husband, so much so that we made our own jam sandwiches.
Take a look..
                                                                Ingredients:

Get some bread...

spread butter on it...

spread some jam...
and put the other slice of bread on it. Eat it!

The children did well at spreading the butter and jam. They also wrote instructions on how to make a jam sandwich.

Some of the children enjoyed writing their own menu for Mr Grinling too. Well done!

Well done to all of our fantastic children for their efforts today.
They had there first taste of life in Class 2, some of us were a bit worried but everyone manged well and all felt much more positive about it all by the end of the day.
The children will join Mrs Flynn (classteacher) and Miss Knott (LSA) and make up the Year 1 cohort of a mixed age class where they will also be with the Year 2's

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

 Week beginning 20.6.21

Another busy week in Class 1 this week, continuing our theme of the Forrest.  We looked at the book Into the Forest by Antony Browne and discussed all sorts of things...

Similarities between that and Little Red Riding Hood.

Characters that we could see from other well known tales and of course...

Should the Little Boy have listened to his Mummy and gone round the forest instead of through it?

We put this to the vote and then did a wonderful speaking and listening exercise sharing our contributions.

We all decided that he had done the wrong thing, so took the time to share our thoughts about why this was.

In Maths this week we have enjoyed lots of measuring activities, comparing lengths and then actually measuring them with cubes or rulers.

In Phonics we have revisited our Split digraphs again to help remember how these change the short vowel to a long one.

Finally you may be wondering what the children have bought home with them this afternoon?
We spent time in our writing sessions this week thinking about the part in the story where the Little Boy gets to where he opens the door and there in Granny's bed was...
So with that in mind and some very tired Reception children, Greg had an idea to make a bed for himself.  This inspired the whole class to make their own paper bodies and beds with printed bed clothes.

Well done everyone
Have a lovely weekend.

Straight back to a busy week after our half term break this week in Class One...

We have enjoyed the text Freddie and the Fairy by Julia Donaldson and spent a lot of time learning about rhyming words, we even wrote our own verses using the text from the book.

We have used our outdoor area to create some fairy art and are currently observing what happens to them day by day as the materials we used begin to change.

In Maths we have spent the week learning about halving.... first we considered pictures and shapes before moving onto numbers, great work everyone.

The sun has well and truly been with us this week, many children still do not have sun hats in school, please make sure your child has a hat.  It's not just play times we are outside in Class 1, as we have continuous access to our outdoor area throughout the whole day.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

 Week beginning 24th May

There was a Rainbow theme in Class 1 this week...

In Maths we have been learning how to use our Tens Frames...

Our text this week has been the Rainbow Fish and we have been fascinated how the Illustrator uses colours.  We have been learning about different shades and tones and how to mix and blend colours. We then created our own fish using one colour to start...

The children have had a wonderful half term and worked well, they all deserve a well earned rest.
Happy Half Term everyone.

 Week beginning 17th

This week we have continued our learning around Flowers.

We have also started to see our flowers emerging through the soil in our pots too.

Some of us have been working on our cutting skills to create these lovely flowers to take home too.

In Maths this week we have been learning how useful the 'part part whole' model can be for problem solving.

Rained off this week for PE, Mr Sanders had a very special treat for us...he bought in his archery equipment and we got to do some target practice in the Hall instead.

Well done everyone.

Have a lovely weekend.

Week Beginning 10.5.21

Sorry that we haven't been able to post for the last couple of weeks, for some reason we have been unable to access our Blog page in school, fingers crossed all is back to normal now...

Well, we had an unusual visitor in Class 1 this week....

Not the Tiger who came to tea, but the Tiger who came to Wenhaston Primary.

We used this as a focus to learn and share Tiger facts and to do some descriptive writing,  everyone worked brilliantly and we are very proud of what we achieved.

Elsewhere in our Topic, we have gone with Reggie's choice in class, finding out about flowers...

''Do you know Miss Welby these insects are all busy here on these flowers?'

And look, these leaves and flowers have been put here to attract all different kinds of insects into the garden.

We have also started off our own seeds, which we decided to keep inside for now in case there are anymore frosts over night, but also because Theo found a slug while busy in the wildlife area in our outdoor area  and we definitely do not want that paying our seedlings a visit!

We have also been finding out about the different parts of the plant and what they are all for.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Please note, the office staff have sent home a Parent Mail letter this evening, even though you don not have to pay for your child's school meals until Year 3, please set up an account as then you will be able to use it for any other payments.
Many thanks.
