Week Beginning 23.4.2018

Hello everyone, welcome back to our weekly blog. So what have we been up to this week?
We have read and watched the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We had fun miming the story. It has been interesting to see how challenging it can be to act out a story in silence. We all enjoyed it and thought we managed to communicate a lot using our body and facial expressions...take a peek

Jack's mother is not happy about that magic beans deal...

Another unhappy mummy, 'What are these beans about?' she seems to think...

 

Jack is happy to see a giant beanstalk has grown near the cottage.

The end of the giant. He is never coming back again!

'Hmm, not a happy customer, really? A cow for five beans?'

 

 

On a different front, children have learnt new games which we played happily outdoor under the sun.

Name ball

Children stood in a circle with a player in the middle who would throw the ball up in the air and call out the name of another player. That child had to catch the ball before it bounced more than once.

Very challenging!

The tool box has come out and children have shown incredible awareness of risks involved when handling real tools and worked very sensibly.

In maths, we worked on comparing numbers. We looked at a selection of magic beans and without counting (if possible) we arranged them into piles of those with the most and those with the least number of beans.  

 

 

Another sandpit creation this week, we have recreated Jack and the Beanstalk and used the small world characters to retell the story.

We are still making sure that we have plenty of time for independent learning and exploration too.  Here a group of us made a fantastic ball game where we had to throw the balls into the bread crates which all had different scores in them.  We took it in turns to throw the balls, record a tally and announce who was winning at the end of each round.  Well done everyone, even Mrs Webb had to have a go to see if she could beat anyone's score.

We have also used Jacks magic beans to help us with some adding this week...

We had a fantastic PE session with Mr Knights this week, following on from last week we used our new throwing and catching skills to start the groundwork for a game of rounders.

 

Super skills everyone, well done!

 

A very exciting end to the week; Martha's Dad came in to help us put the flowers on our lovely wall that he had painted for us earlier in the year.

 

 Everybody was very excited to have their turn.

Week Beginning 16.4.2018

Welcome Back. We hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and have come back refreshed! At last the weather seems to be cheering up and we can look forward to our Summer Term.

We started the week spending as much time as possible outdoor to make the most of the new resources and the sun. Children engaged in different activities.

'If you want to balance you put your arms out like that'.

'A fairy village with a stream and a pond'.

 

As you know our new topic in PE is 'Playground Games' so today we started off by learning 'Please Mr Crocodile' and 'Moving Statues'.
The first one is played by selecting a child to be the crocodile. The children ask the crocodile permission to cross the Golden River and the crocodile has to think of something like: 'Only if you are wearing something red' or 'only if you can count to 100' etc.
In 'Moving Statues' one player stands at the front with their back to the others counting quietly to 10. When the player has counted to 10 they turn around quickly. The players should stop moving and stand still. anyone caught moving is out.

More time was spent outdoor in maths where children had to find numbers called out by the teacher and stand by them.  They then worked in teams and used the large building bricks to  put represent the number called.



                                           
Great team work! Some children look for the number, whilst others fetched the bricks and some checked they had the right amount of bricks.

 

 

Back inside we have been working hard with our independent challenges, such as this one where we had to label the different parts of Little Red Riding Hoods body.

 

 

We spent lots of time showing great cooperation skills this week, glad to be back with our friends, just look at this fantastic volcano we made, four sets of hands and creative ideas and THIS was the end result.

 

 

 

Finally, we are still clearing up after all the building work and we have taken advantage of the sunshine to soap and scrub our number lines and alphabet boards.  This was a tough job but we had several fantastic helpers. Thank you...

 

 

Congratulations to Lydia, our Golden Book winner this week for being so helpful and for having super listening skills in class all week.

Week Beginning 26.3.2018

So we have reached the end of yet another busy term.
This week we have written the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' in our very own little book. After painting the front cover we sequenced the days of the week in the book and then wrote the story. Take a look:

We mustn't forget about yoga. This was our last session and we explored the Tree Pose.

This pose is very good for us as it helps with posture, keeping focused and balance.

We found a spot and stood up straight, gently bringing one foot onto the other leg whilst pressing our palms in the middle of the chest.  

It proved tricky to begin with but after a few attempts we all got to keep our balance for a few seconds.

What an end to the week...

 

The grand opening of our new play equipment on the back field and a chance to use it-HOORAY!

 

 

 

An Easter Bonnet parade for the whole Key Stage, with AMAZING entries, well done everyone.  Our class winner was Lydia with Martha in the Runner Up position.

 

Then to a school tradition....Egg Rolling.

 

 

 

Lovely behaviour from everybody, although there were some tired legs when we returned to school.

 

 

Finally to finish, we made our own hot cross buns and baskets to put them in.  We were also lucky enough to fill them with chocolate eggs from the Friends of Wenhaston and a special egg from Angus who took them off his Easter Bonnet to share with the class - Thanks Angus!
