Week Beginning 12.11.2018

Welcome back to class 1 blog and Happy Diwali everyone!
As you might have already guessed this week we have learnt about Diwali.
Diwali is also known as the festival of lights. We have read the Diwali story and have drawn pictures of it in our books.

We embraced this festival by decorating and creating Rangoli patterns and here are some fine examples....

Needless to say that yoga fitted in perfectly with our weekly topic. This time we have enjoyed a cyber lesson on Cosmic Yoga.

Namaste....

Breath and stretch...

One of the weekly challenges was to get children to read environmental prints. It was very interesting to see how many 'words' they can already 'read'.

'That's boys' cars...'

'That's like a café...'

'I watch CBeebies!'

'Weetabix is for breakfast'.

Keeping with our Divali theme we listened carefully to the story of Rama and Sita and spoke about the characters.  The children then faced the challenge to build a picture (with the 2D shapes) or a model (with the 3D shapes) of something that they remembered from the story.

Sita; The Princess

 Rama's special bow and arrow

Hanuman, King of the monkey army in the trees

We also found out at the end of the story that people lit Diva's to light the path and guide Rama and Sita on their journey home so we decided to make our own Divas using clay.

We have used air drying clay so we have to wait a while for it to harden before we can decorate them and add the candles, watch this space.

Well done to everyone who has managed to build a few minutes into their busy daily routines to read at home.  It really does make all the difference at this stage if the children do a little bit everyday.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
