Our work around Handa's surprise has continued in Class 1 this week and we really have been busy, despite only having four days in school.

Using a selection of different fruits we have been investigating which fruits float and which fruits sink.

'I know this orange is going to sink because it's the biggest and it's really heavy.  Oh no! Look it's actually floating.'

'Well I think this little tiny grape will float really easily, look... What? it has sunk to the bottom'

The children enjoyed the activity that we extended it the next day.

Asking questions such as, if the tangerine floats, will it still float if we peel it?

If the orange floats, will it still float if we cut it half?

So many questions to try and answer, well done everyone.

We have enjoyed more independent challenges this week, Eli is busy here sorting the fruits and vegetables into the correct boxes.

In English, following a session where we drew our own story maps to recall the main events, we had a go at some independent writing to retell the whole story.

The children used their story maps, tricky word cards and independent skills and some of the writing was fabulous, well done!

Elsewhere children have been using their imagination to recreate other scenes from the book.
Look, this is Handa with her basket on her head.

Congratulations to  Thea  Our Golden Book winner today for working really hard in phonics this week.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
