Week Beginning 13.5.2019

This week book is :
The children looked at the front cover and made many suggestions about where the train might be going and what the story might be about.
The text in it comes with repetitive refrains and Class 1 quickly learnt the patterns and join in with the reading. Well done!

As well as a train set in our classroom we had a big train set up outdoors. G and A went off on a journey to Halesworth station.

We had lots of fun in PE. We played a new game called 'Dead Ants'. All pupils were ants except one, the ant catcher. Ants had to move around a designated playing area without getting caught by the catcher. If they did get caught they were dead and had to lie on the ground with their legs and arms up. To save a dead ant four ants had to carefully lift and carry those on the ground and take them to the nearest hospital (hoops). We practised  several times how to carry a dead ant before playing the game.
The children did incredibly well and had lots and lots of laughs.
'Wait we count to three first and then we lift'

'Hold my arm, i need another ant!'

'If you are a dead ant you have to put your legs and arms up'.

During the week children chose the reading challenge. They had to read part of the The Train Ride story on their own or with a friend.
'I what some of these words are'.

We also had some time to carry out a fruit tasting activities. We tried some unusual fruits like the passion fruit and most children were brave enough to try it. Some really loved it.

'There are a lot of seeds in the passion fruit'
Children ate the fruits and described how they tasted.
'I love mango it's so yellow and happy and sweet'.

Whilst all of these activities were happening the outdoor area became a giant weaving paradise.
'We could make a giant bus'

'Hold it here. Can you do a knot?'

'I made a crocodile!'

Lots of us worked together to build a pirate island outside in the sunshine... we needed a shelter to camp in, boats to go fishing in, a bar b q to cook the fish on and so much more.

Quick hide in here, we will be safe!
Creating colourful fish to catch in the sea.

In other independent activities, we have loved out new weaving frame.

What a lot of colour!

Finally we finished our week with another busy reading share, thank you to all of the parents that came to support.

Have a good weekend everyone.
